Funding your studies

There are a variety of ways to fund the course and no payment is required until after you have reserved your place.

PAYING YOURSELF
If you decide to pay for your course fees you can pay in full or by instalments. Certain discounts are available on particular courses and payment terms. If you decide to study five or six modules per year ( 16 hours study a week) you can apply to your LEA for a government grant to assist in the payment of your course fees.

CAREER DEVELOPMENT LOANS
These are unsecured loans operated by the Department for Education and Employment in partnership with three banks. They are intended to assist people who wish to fund their own career development education or training. You make no repayments during your course and for up to three months after the course ends. A loan can be used to pay part or in some cases all of your course fees. As a Horses & Courses student you may be eligible if:

your course is related to your job or a career you intend to develop and,
you are not receiving a financial award from any other source.

For an application form or more information about applying for a loan you need to contact the Career Development Loans Department on 0800 585 505.

FINANCIAL SUPPORT FROM YOUR EMPLOYER
Many employers recognise the value of their employees' furthering their knowledge and may provide part or all of the course fees. It is up to you to approach your employer for sponsorship, however we are happy to provide course details and advice to both yourself and your employer regarding your studies.

INDIVIDUAL LEARNING ACCOUNTS
The government have recently set up a new training initiative scheme which provided up to £150.00 towards the cost of vocational training. The scheme is open to the employed, undertaking vocational training on a part-time basis and the unemployed providing that they are not claiming Job Seeker's Allowance. All our courses can be paid for through this learning account but you must be studying the course to help in your current or future career and not just as a leisure interest. Further information can be obtained from your local Training and Enterprise Council or by contacting the Learning Account Centre on 0800 072 5678.
